Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 PK-CLC with 62 on board crashes into the Java Sea, debris and body parts now found

Sriwijaya Air’s pictured Boeing 737-524 PK-CLC (msn 27323) crashed into the Java Sea on January 9, 2021.

The aircraft was operating flight SJ 182 from Jakarta to Pontianak, Indonesia with 56 passengers and 6 crew members on board.

The 737 was climbing out of Jakarta (Sokarno) over the Java Sea when radar contact was lost..

“Police received a bag of body parts; they were later transported to Kramat Jati Hospital. More body parts, as well as life jackets from the aircraft, were also found. Later in the afternoon, more body parts and wreckage were recovered from the crash site. Rescuers managed to recover a life vest, pieces from the aircraft’s fuselage and a destroyed wheel of the Boeing 737. Most of the wreckage were found at a depth of 17-23 meters.

Parts of the hydraulic system of the Boeing 737-524, seating number and a part from the registration code of the aircraft had been recovered from the crash site. The scattered debris and the small pieces of the wreckage indicated a high-speed impact.”
